Careers at Smiles of Quorn
A place children love — and people love working in
Founded in 2018 by good friends and colleagues, both with many years of experience in early years and primary education, Smiles of Quorn was created to change how out-of-school care feels. Having seen children reluctant to attend after-school clubs, they set out to create something different — a place children would genuinely look forward to. Somewhere that feels separate from the school day, where play, freedom and a sense of belonging come first.
That vision still defines everything we do today, and it shapes what it feels like to be part of the team.
A setting designed for children to feel at home
Based at The Deep End, Rawlins, Smiles is a space where children can relax and be themselves. Indoors, there’s room to create, build, imagine and unwind. Outdoors, children have the freedom to run, explore and take part in everything from sports to woodland play.
For staff, this means working in an environment that feels open, positive and full of energy — where no two days are the same, and where you’re encouraged to get involved rather than stand back.
Wraparound care that creates a rhythm to the day
During term time, our wraparound provision is built around giving children a clear break from school. The short walk to and from St Bartholomew’s is part of that — a chance to reset, chat and arrive ready to enjoy their time at Smiles.
Sessions are centred on free play, with children choosing how they spend their time, alongside a variety of weekly activities led by the team. As a member of staff, you’re part of creating that balance — supporting children, joining in and helping shape an environment that feels calm, happy and engaging
Holiday clubs full of variety and energy
Our holiday clubs bring a different pace, with full-day sessions and a wide range of activities designed to keep children engaged and excited. From physical challenges and creative projects to cooking, performances and outdoor exploration, there’s always something happening.
For staff, this brings variety to the role and the chance to lead activities, share ideas and build strong relationships with children across longer days.
A team that makes the difference
What truly sets Smiles apart is the people. Working here isn’t about supervising from the sidelines — it’s about being involved, building relationships and creating moments that children remember.
As part of the team, you’re trusted to bring your own personality to the role. We aim to create the same environment for staff that we do for children: supportive, welcoming and enjoyable to be part of. As a family-run setting, we know our team well, we support each other and we take pride in what we do.
For many of our staff, that’s what makes Smiles different. It doesn’t feel like a typical childcare role — it feels more natural, more rewarding, and something people genuinely enjoy being part of.
Work that feels different — in the best way

Flexibility that works around you
Many of our team balance work with studies or other commitments. We aim to offer flexible, part-time hours that support a healthy work-life balance.
A focus on staff wellbeing
We understand the importance of feeling supported. Staff have access to a free, independent and confidential counselling service, alongside a culture that promotes wellbeing and open communication.
Led by experience and recognised nationally
Smiles is led by an award-winning manager, recognised nationally for her dedication to both high-quality provision and staff wellbeing — something that shapes the way we work every day.
Opportunities to step up and lead
For those who want to take on more responsibility, there are opportunities to develop leadership skills and play a bigger role in shaping the setting.
Work that genuinely makes a difference
Every day, you’ll play a part in creating a space where children feel happy, safe and confident — and that’s what makes the role so rewarding.
Variety in every session
No two days at Smiles are the same. From creative activities and outdoor play to themed sessions and holiday club programmes, the role stays varied, engaging and enjoyable.
The practical side covered
Holiday pay is included, and we aim to make sure staff feel supported in both the experience and the practicalities of the role.

Lucy, Head of Holiday Club
"I originally wanted a career in education or childcare and found Smiles to be the perfect introduction into the industry. When I first applied, one of the main things that stood out was how close-knit the team was—I felt welcomed straight away, even just from being shown around. The opportunity for further training was also a big draw and has supported me as I’ve progressed through different roles.
A typical day might involve setting up the playroom ready for the children, or meeting them at school and walking back together. Once back, we provide a snack, followed by an adult-led activity and time outside. It can feel busy at first, but you quickly settle into the routine thanks to the support from the team, and every day is different which keeps it enjoyable.
My favourite part of the job is working with the children and the team to create a positive experience that they genuinely look forward to. I especially enjoy leading activities, and it’s really rewarding hearing from parents that their children go home excited to talk about what they’ve done at Smiles.
The team at Smiles is very close-knit and supportive, and you’re always encouraged to develop. I’ve gained a range of skills and qualifications through training platforms like Flick Learning, as well as opportunities to attend courses such as Level 3 Childcare, Food Hygiene, Health & Safety, Paediatric First Aid and DSL training.
If you’re a kind and caring person who enjoys working as part of a supportive team, I would definitely recommend applying. It’s a really rewarding place to work."
The people behind the smiles
Hear from the people who make Smiles what it is. From first jobs to leadership roles, every member of the team plays a part in creating the environment children love.
Grace, Playleader
"I first started working at Smiles when I was 17, looking for a part-time job that I would enjoy and that would complement my creative personality. I’ve always loved working with children, especially when it comes to teaching dance and theatre, so I was really drawn to the positive atmosphere at Smiles. When I first applied and completed a trial shift, I was welcomed straight away by both the team and the children, and I knew Smiles was the place for me.
I am so grateful for the team at Smiles, as they really are what make the job so rewarding. I’ve learnt so much in a short space of time and have been given opportunities to develop and apply for higher positions. Without the trust from Rachel and Harvey, I would never have believed in my own abilities. Their support helped me work my way up from Playworker to Head of Holiday Club, something I am extremely proud of.
I really enjoy how different each day can be, whether that’s planning activities, working with the children or supporting the team. With the children’s safety and happiness always the top priority, I always feel motivated and rewarded in what I do, and no two days ever feel the same.
Working at Smiles has helped me develop skills I’ll carry with me for life, both professionally and personally, and has given me experiences I wouldn’t have found elsewhere.
I would definitely recommend working at Smiles if you are energetic, caring and a reliable. It’s a really positive and rewarding place to work, and somewhere you can genuinely grow and enjoy what you do."
